I love this! This is great! Thought I would share.

I sooooo could have written this. Every word. I might add:
-Please stop sending random people we have never met to pick up your child, without going through the proper procedure. We will not release the child, we will not accept their word that it's okay or yours over the phone, and it will just be bad situation for everyone involved.
-If you are aware that we do not allow outside food, candy, toys, coins, etc, and that such will be discarded upon our discovery of it, please do not ask me where it is at pick-up.
-Please do not call and expect to speak to me (or your child) at any time of the day. It's sooo much more disruptive than you think. If you want to talk to your child, come pick them up. If you want to discuss something with me, do it at arrival/departure or make an appointment. If anything is not okay with your child, we'll be certain to call YOU (and hope that YOU answer).- Flag

It's a good (and true) article, but the reader comments make for more interesting reading. You really get an idea of who "gets it" and who doesn't.- Flag

In day homes, the provider is also the sole proprietor. Meaning you all get to operate under your own rules and enforce them.
Center workers don't get that liberty.
Instead, we have three sets of policies to deal with: the center's rules, what actually works, and what actually happens.
This was entertainment to me. Because I would never say these things, and its a small fraction of what my energy goes into at work. But its good to know someone else drags their hands down their faces over this same stuff- Flag

Very funny! Goes for Sunday Schools too. I cant tell you how often parents would drop babies off with overflowing diapers and not leave extras. Guess they assume free diapers, free child care....."God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.'"

I would also add:
Please, hang up your cell phone before dropping off your child. Handing her to me while you are speaking on the phone is both rude and disrespectful, to both me and your child.
In November in New England, shoes and sock are a necessity, not an option.
Forgetting to pick up your child is NEVER a valid excuse.- Flag

I've run into almost all of those issues myself, in my own home. I don't think these problems are center specific.- Flag

How many of you would post this in your daycare?- Flag

I wouldn't post it in my daycare but I can relate to some of the things in that list. Okay so I've probably come up will ALL of them at least once in my short few years in DC ... all except having a DCD hit on me that is.
I was actually quite surprised at most of the replies from parents. I guess I half expected the moms to get upset or defensive but I was very pleased to see that many never even imagined that there were parents out there that did those things. It was a very nice surprise to see that many of them appreciated and respected their child care workers. Made my day- Flag
