My kids always look forward to December when the Elf comes out to play, searching for him in the morning and I love catching them whisper sweet nothing's in his ear. To me it is magical and childhood should be full of that magic.

If you google 101 ideas for elf on the shelf so many great ideas can be found. I love the flour snow angel, painting the kids noses red in their sleep- can't wait.

The elf is a tradition to me similar to decorated the tree, an the advent calendar.
I must look up those 101 ideas! Our elf likes to leave notes around for us to find. He praises us for things we do for each other. He has been known to hide in the fridge too when he's hungry! I have a blast with him every year!

There's TONS of cute ideas on Pinterest, so I kinda wanted to do it with them... but, they all do it at home. I didn't want to take away the Christmas magic from mom and dad by doing it here too.

When my girls were little, I loved the magic of Santa, and I hated if someone copied what we did. LOL. (maybe a little jealousy)

Do I have to buy this book and elf or can I get the story off internet somewhere and use my own elf I have?

You could probably do your own thing! I bought mine as a box set with the book and doll together, but I don't see why it would have to be done that way.

So the story is like the elf watches them and reports what he sees to santa?

He watches the kids, listens to their dream and stories. He flies home to Santa each night and reports. The book is written as poetry. Then he comes back by morning and is found sitting in a different place in the house. The children can talk to him etc...but cannot touch him (I always have him way up high). Our elf does all kinds of things during the night. He brings treats, he likes to read and leaves books open on the table. He leaves notes etc. I understand that you can get 100's of ideas onlline...the possibilities are endless. I am going to check them out for new ideas.

I tell the kids that rudolph is going to fly by and check on them at nap. if they are sleeping, he presses his nose on the window to show he was there. if they arent sleeping, he wont come! I put a finger print of paint on the window when they are sleeping. might check out the elf for more of a game than telling santa.

Me neither. Why should Santa get the credit for my hard earned money spent on gifts???? ::

I need him for my own kids, too bad he can't report to me who said what when they all are in a brawl on the floor.
