Family Decided! Now I Only Need Three More FT Kids!

So my drop in turned full timer fam that wasn't crazy about doing the contract and were looking elsewhere, talked w dcm other day and told her I'd be willing to continue w dcb at ft wo a contract bc I like this dcf and dcb..anyway they talked things over and mom really wanted to keep dcb here so let me know they were going to!!! I was so happy to hear that, and now I have two consistent ft same age so they can play together...a possible infant in the works but idk for sure.

Either way I feel much better with filling two spots w ft and now need to focus on getting a couple more. I do have two-three high possibles for dec/Jan so may just have to wait it out if no one else comes along before then..but now I am just going to pray to get a few more and that I keep these guys for as long as I can!

I love what I'm doing and I look forward to having an actual income again...praying and hoping for the best but happy with this for the time being!

I am glad you feel good about all of this, and I hope the good feelings stay. To me, the fact that they don't want to operate with a contract is a red flag to me. To me this says that they are the ones making the rules for YOUR business. I would NEVER operate a business without a contract! Good luck to you though!

i know that you are doing all that you can to keep money coming in.

Trust me when I tell you this, I am the queen of making mistakes!

#1 RULE NEVER do business without a contract, it will bite you in the butt in the end. Also, never change your rules for any family just to keep them. Unless they are willing to compromise and sign a new contract.

Like when silver did that great thing for the single mom who lost her job. She offered to keep the child at a reduced rate, but with every intention to go back to full rate once mom got back on her feet. I am sure that Silver made a new contract for this mom when she was so kind to offer this to her.

Owning your own business is great, because you can control when, where, why, when and how things happen. Just remember that you need to take control of your business and not let the parents run it for you...

Sorry, not trying to rain on your parade.... Congrats to getting more business!!

Daycare is right. If they don't like your contract you presented, write up another to specifying what you agreed to. Have it in writing and get them to sign it.

Well I have never had problems with this dcf, they started wo a contact as drop in and I recently went to ft or pt care only for reg weekly clients who need ft availability..but that being said I had made it clear my policies were the same regardless and we could change the required notice time in their contract or not do one but that I would still be closed holidays, etc and weekly rate would remain the same....got so excited that dcb was staying that I neglected to say that even though I had given the option of no contract or an altered one, dcm had already filled out and signed it anyway so notbonly did they decide to stay, they did the contract after all.

Thanks all, I know I really didn't want to do it wo a contract but this dcf has been great, wish they all were..so far but I could have changed just the notice time for them since I was the one who for various reasons changed the type of care I was doing..but, I think just talking to dcm and making it clear I didn't want to lose the dcb and was willing to talk about options with her is what sealed it, I surely didn't expect a signed original contract when she said they were staying..even better though. It's good for them also bc if they didn't have it and were just paying like drop in or wo a set spot, they would have to do something else in the event I became full.

We will see how it goes, but I couldn't guarantee a spot wo being ft so maybe that was part of it..plus my location helped too even though I'm in the boonies, I'm in their neck of the boonies

Thanks daycare, I don't mind..I totally respect learning from others and what they have been through which is why I love this forum so much. This isn't a new family, they were one of my firsts and I have only been going a few months but I needed and wanted to keep them if possible in a compromise that worked for both of us, and in the end it worked for me better than I thought it would. I only offered an option to them bc they have been good to deal with and bc they were one of my first families...no newbies start wo a contract and my newest family was actually happy I had one and liked it..
