    Playing In Crib Upon Waking

When did kids stop doing this? Everyone of my dc kids screams to get out the minute they wake up.

What ever happened to crib talk? My kids cooed, talked to themselves, and sang, sometimes for 1/2 hour. They always had a book, and sometimes, they would "read" to themselves.

Not one of my dc kids does this.

OMG! I have one DCB that has done the same thing since he's started. He's now 18 months old. This week I started him on a mat and still wakes up crying.. What's up with that??
Ughhh its pretty annoying to me!

      hmmm...maybe I'm forgetting the timeline

seems like mine did it as soon as they made sounds!

      From Wikipedia:

Crib talk or crib speech is pre-sleep monologue made by young children while in bed. This starts somewhere around one-and-a-half years and usually ends by about two-and-a-half years of age, though children can continue longer.[1][2] It consists of conversational discourse with turn-taking often containing semantically and syntactically coherent question-answer sequences. It may contain word play and bits of song and nursery rhyme.

Crib talk has been found in deaf children in their early sign language.[3] It also occurs in autistic children.[4]

All my DC kids are in pack n plays. I don't let anyone get up and out if they are screaming. I only pick up kids that are calm and happily awake. doesn't take them long to figure out that screaming gets nothing in this house.

I have a two year old who wakes up crying and fussing every day. He's a fairly unhappy kid anyway. It runs me nuts.

I think I will do this too.

I do go in and check on them. If they are screaming, then I stand there and ignore them and they quickly get that they have to calm first before coming out. If they really cannot calm down then they probably need to nap longer anyway.

Thanks Cheerful, for not making me feel like a big meanie! I do the same thing. Sometimes I stand there and tell them "I will get you out when you are quiet". Oddly enough, after 6 months, you'd think they'd get that
