    Dirty Children.....

Quick question, if a child came in same clothes a couple days in a row, then changes outfit and wears that one for a few days. Still has marker on leg from over a week ago, nails filthy, ears very crusty.....blanket he brings is filthy, dried blood on his jacket.

How or what would you say to parents??

All I have ever come up with is, if you dont have time to change him in morning you can stick an outfit in his bag and I can change him. That lasted a week.

Yes very. Never had issue with them paying, showing up late, etc. I wash him when he gets here with wipes and soap. He is only 2, so he cant say mom change me, or anything like that.

Is something going on with Mom or Dad? Like is Mom working all the time and Dad watching the children at night?

So sad to hear this. Children should not have to come to daycare dirty. I am a softy when it comes to the child's needs. I always try to remember that a child needs to be proud of himself.

I would speak with the parents and ask if there is a problem with washer and dryer and ask if they have hot water (i know you can boil it), but this would help break the ice.

I would also go to the goodwill and buy several outfits for the child. I would use wet wipes and clean the child and i would wash the jacket and blanket. I know this is NOT the providers job, but it would break my heart to see a little one have to be dirty all the time.

I would have a nice chat with mom. Play the concerned card.

Joy, I've noticed some changes lately, I'm getting concerned. Is everything ok? Is there anything you need help with?

If she says, what kinds of changes just tell her. Well josh seems to be wearing unwashed clothes and he is missing his daily bath. I really don't want to be mosey but when you enrolled him he became part of our family. I love him and I'm worried that you may need something, families help each other. If you need me, I'm here.

              Great idea laundrymom!

And I have washed his blanket, jacket and even cleaned his ears (yuck!) Every few days the blanket is nasty, new stains on the old clothes, and I will throw him in a pair of pjs and wash his clothes at nap time IF i have other clothes to throw in. I just cant keep doing this each week.

I will try to talk to mom again, and there is no new change with them that I know of, I know during summer he had babysitter at night and then he didnt come dirty, but with both parents being home at night now, he has started coming dirty again. He has been here since birth, and for the first year they supplied me with tons of outfits for his spit ups, etc.

I can't believe the dirty coats kids come in, or clothes that smell like mildew, I wash it, but reality there really is no excuse for it, even if you work.

Yep I do this too. Can't stand it!

As for the origional posters question, I took a mandatory "child abuse" course that was required by my employer when I worked at a centre and this was one of the red flags of neglect that needed to be reported to Children's Aid
