Who Does "Well Only Child Care"? Mildly ill? Pros and Cons???

I know its flu and cold season but I am seriously considering going "well only", currently I am "mildly ill"....but honestly this is the third time since september that my son has been sick and I really don't want him running such high fevers as he did before since he is prone to seizure....

so for those of you who do well only, what are your policies and such and is it hard to enforce them???

I feel like it may be hard for me because since I am just opening i feel like parents may be like "who does she think she is, and go to the next provider.."

I would go and see Nannyde's website...She has the best one around that I have seen.

I only do well care and I don't allow for children to come to care ill. Parents must assess their children in the morning before coming. If I feel they are too ill to be here I will send them home. Parents have one hour to come and pick up child after I have called them. failure to pick up within one hour will be billed at the rate of $1.00 per min thereafter.

Children must be well enough to participate... If they can't they go home.

I can share mine with you

yes please I would love to see...a child well enough to participate though...what if they're sneezing and coughing every where and boogers but they are well enough to participate??

Like the little baby I watch she is napping pretty normally, no fever but lots of boogers and today they started to be green...

I run a "well dayhome". But parents still sneak their sick kids in when they are ill.
4-6 hours later, well you know the drill.

Do the best you can to clean and buckle down for the next 10 months, cause it's only the begining.

So if a baby had green mucous with out fever then I am assuming you would not let this child come to daycare right?

Is it followed by another symptom? Like sneezing, coughing, ear ache????

                    No

When kids have a ton of green snot they have to go to the doctor or wait it out at home.

I agree with you Nan if it is a large amount that would require me to constantly wipe a nose or if the child was too young to be able to wash own hands or blow their nose I would send them home.

But if its just a wipe here and there every other hour, then I would tolerate it.

thick green discharge?? I make her stay home for 24 hours or until symptoms have subsided. if she comes back with it, you exclude her for 48 hours and require a doc note stating what she has to come back into the dc. If it is just allergies like all parents say, then you need a note stating so. You don't want to take risks...

I tell parents that one childs cold is another child pneumonia.

I hate snot btw I can handle poop, vomit, blood, but not snot.....

Green snot is a sign of infection. No coming to daycare until they've been to the doctor and had a full days dosage of meds.

No disrespect meant here....but this is not true.

A stuffy or congested nose occurs when the tissues lining the nose become swollen. The swelling is due to inflamed blood vessels.

Many people think that a green or yellow nasal discharge means a bacterial infection, which requires antibiotics. This is NOT true. Colds will often begin with a clear nasal discharge, but after several days it usually turns creamy yellow or green. Colds are caused by viruses, and antibiotics will not help. A green or yellow nasal discharge is not a sign that you need antibiotics.
