I have a no shoe policy as well. Everyone follows the rules (except my OWN parents). Drives me nuts. I don't have problems with DC parents not following it though which is good. They will either take them off or wait for me to bring them their child.

I have new carpet so I made the rule of no shoes. With winter coming and them walking right off the street I don't want anymore gray slush and black cinders so I put a stop to it. I allow them to step in the front door to get out of the cold but then there is a small area rug against the wall I tell everyone to put their shoes on. At first it was ok after a few days I had to keep reminding them. 1 parent still found reasons to squeeze past me and walk out of the front hall and into other rooms where I again make a comment about my no shoe policy. She would say oops forgot sorry but then do it again a couple days later. I have even put a gate up right in the middle of the hall and she still stepped over it! Some parents are just rude. I feel like this one was just testing me and showing me she will do as she pleases. She is no longer here but I am interviewing for new clients so here we go again.

No disrespect but is it harder for them to get their shoes off and on being older? Mine wears them in the house as well here but not at theirs. Maybe its a generation thing because when I was younger I never remember taking my shoes off at peoples homes.

I did consider the fact that it may be a lot more difficult to take their shoes off because they are older, so my DH made a nice bench they can sit on to do it. My dad also wears slip-on loafer style shoes so I don't know what else I can do.

I honestly think my dad just plain old likes giving me a hard time about it.... :: We do have a good relationship and he likes to do things like that. He also makes a point of calling me to wish me happy birthday on my big day...but he always calls at 5 a.m! (At least HE thinks he is funny! )
