    New Infant Is "Difficult" ...

    And has strong opinions.

First, he HATES, HATES, HATES his baby bottles. (dr Brown) DESPISES them. So, feeding him can take over an hour, and he's having a complete meltdown.

I really think that if I can get him past this issue (either by using a different bottle, or getting him to like this one) We can get through the rest of the problems.

The other big issue, is he ONLY likes to be carried with one arm. You have to football hold him, with your arm pointing out like you are carrying a heavy basket, and let him look out, while still lie down in your arm. His own Mom has ace bandages on both wrists from this carry. (she's convinced that he's only going to like this one way ever) She showed me how to do it, and I outright said "That's not going to happen here... he'll learn other ways that don't cause me to require surgery in six months" So, I let him scream on my back in a Mei tai until he relaxes and realizes "hey, this isn't so bad".

He will not sleep alone. He must be carried. (that can't go on forever either, because my back hurts...he's 17lbs) But, I'll give that a few weeks.

He is very, very picky about everything. His older brother was the complete opposite.... he could sleep anywhere, in any position, ate whatever i fed him, in whatever form I fed it, was happy to sit in a chair and watch the kids play... he was just the all around content, happy kid...so, I knew this one had to be different. I'm pretty sure God only gives you one easy kid. That rule is probably in the bible.

Anyway..... If you have any other special tricks for the kid who likes nothing, I'd appreciate.

sounds like a hurting tummy, at least the part about only liking the football hold. That's putting pressure on his tummy and helping with the pain.

I agree. Maybe a reflux problem?

reflux, or lactose intolerance, or an allergy.

He has been on formula his whole life. It could be a tummy problem, I've had kids with reflux, and that doesn't seem to be the issue. But, his tummy might hurt.

He also hates having the nipple in his mouth, so today, i'm going to try a shorter nipple.

I would look at lactose intolerance, then, or even silent reflux. Does he ever burp and make a sound like he's going to spit up, but then swallows instead?

It could be that he wants a faster nipple.

have you talked to mom about it? Is this a new issue or an on-going one (the nipple thing)--if it's new he might be really teething or have an ear infection, something that's making it hurt for him to ****.

He's asleep right now and drinking from a rubber playtex nipple. I'm not holding it, i just propped it between the sling and my chest, so he can't get mad at me for touching it. He's "holding it himself". But, I can promise that if I try to touch it or adjust it, he'll have a fit.

I'll see if this is just a fluke, or if he really hates having the long latex nipples. If this works, I'll switch him over here. (parents are fine with this.. they just want him to eat without drama)

But, it may just be because he's asleep and doesn't know what he's doing.
