There is a huge spectrum for this. I would expect some cognitive disabilities similar to ADD/ADHD. There can be physical impairments as well. These can be lessened through therapy and a good upbringing or enhanced by poor parenting.MnMum married to DH 9 years

Long term: I have no idea about the meth. but I have a now 14 yo "crack baby". My baby was actually born "high"
She started taking a low dose med for ADHD last year and that has helped her with her schooling and impulsiveness. We don't really know if that's from the crack or not-a very high percentage of adopted children (which she is) have ADD/ADHD even without prenatal drug exposure.
The biggest long term issue for her is questioning why a mother would do drugs knowing she is pregnant and the harm it could cause her baby. She was very angry with her birth mom for quite a while about this. We had many, many talks about drugs and what addiction will do to a personand lots of prayers and tears. Our dd has chosen to forgive her birth mom and accept her the way she is and was.
I am so proud of her! She's our "baby" and she's been such a joy and a blessing to our family!- Flag

The little boy I'm referring to is the opposite of having ADHD. He is 2, VERY withdrawn, doesn't socialize with other kids or have any interest in toys. He will literally sit/stand in one place for hours, twirliing fuzz or hair in between his fingers. Doesn't say more than 4-5 words, just starting waving/saying bye a few months ago. He seems to "space out" and not respond when I say his name.
A reliable source has told me that his mother was doing meth and cocaine right before she got pregnant, so it could have been when she was pregnant with him too.
The boy seems to get overstimulated VERY easily. If I turn on music, tv, or tell the kids we are going outside/to another room he starts screaming. Any type of change is major for him. Just wondering if any of this could be because of possible prenatal drug exposure or if it's just his personality. I would love to know of ways to help him!- Flag

One of my dd's had narcotic withdrawal when she was born. I'm not sure if it can have similar results but I would assume so since most of these drugs have similar properties. In my case it was demoral, codeine and a limited amount of morphine. I had some medical problems during my pregnancy and was medicated in the hospital and for several months of my pregnancy (23 weeks until 36 weeks when I was delivered).
We were lucky and she had a healthy birthweight despite being delivered a month early but we struggle with attention and hyper activity. As a baby she was listless, never settled, slept very poorly, fed poorly and was very cranky. This went on for at least the first year. After that she still has a poor attention span, very hyper, and has poor impulse control.- Flag
