Well, That Should Make Trick Or Treating Loads Of Fun..

Drop in dad called this morning to see if I could take his daughter last minute. I said we are having a party, but one kid wasn't coming today, so I had enough stuff for her... no biggie.

He gets here and says "no sweets". ...."Um... did you NOT hear me when I said we were having a HALLOWEEN PARTY"? He said "she can be at the party..but, no sweets".

    Great.. how stupid.

Anyway... I gave her everything except the treats that the other kids brought.

But, she was upset, and then didn't fall asleep at nap time. So, dad calls thirty minutes before nap is over (waking two kids) to tell me to make sure she gets a good nap so they can take her trick or treating. "She's FOUR... nap is over, and she never fell asleep". So, he tells me to tell her she can't go trick or treating unless she falls asleep.

"Um... NO... you can wait til you have her in the car, and tell her yourself".

Besides, I know he'll take her anyway...she's freaking four years old, how do you not take a four year old when you are taking the other two?

BUT, now she's in the worst mood ever, because she didn't get any treats, and now she's tired, and it's hot...she wore a long sleeved shirt over.

I would make sure all drop in families know that kids need to do whatever the group is doing when they are dropped off for the day. No changes to your schedule, meals, activities to accommodate a drop in child. I would have let her do everything else the other kids were doing.

Sounds like a dad with control issues. I'm glad you refused to tell her she's not going trick or treating. That should come from him if he really means it.

What kind of parent takes a child to a Halloween party, but says no treats? I respect a parent's right to not to allow treats...but then they should have kept her at home.

I'm sorry, but if one gets, they all get. Dad should never have requested that.

I'm picturing him dressed like a big thumb and about to stick into something else.

That is unreasonable and mean IMO. Poor girlie.

OK-here is what I find confusing? Why can't she have treats at the party but he is taking her trick or treating? That doesn't make sense at all!

I would guess that the Dad doesn't want her having TOO MUCH sugar/treats and wants to experience TOT with her. When they TOT, he would allow her treats, so he doesn't want her to have it all day as well as tonight.

That was my impression too. But, it's not like we were having cupcakes.

Anyway... apparently, she had a meltdown at 5:00, fell asleep, woke up at 6:30, had another fit because her sisters had already left, didn't like her costume, and went to just a few houses with no costume, and her arms folded the whole time, so dad just brought her home.

When her sisters agreed to share their candy with her, they only gave her tootsie rolls and things they didn't want.

Bad day all around. Next time, I bet Dad will just let things be.

Wait until she realizes that Halloween isn't today too - and that it's not for a very long time.
