when you want the kids to be quiet? I use the word "hush" with my own children but have gotten some glares in public for that. Is that a strange word to use? I don't yell at them but do use a firm voice. I've got 3 kids under 4 years old and I am very strict on their behavior in public. Isn't that word so much better than yelling "shut up" at a kid (which sadly, I think we have all seen). For some reasons, this word gets me looks from strangers like I am doing something bad.....
My daycare kids are a very sweet group and generally, not loud or rowdy. My own two older kids are actually cause for a good part of any noise happening. Their voices carry and echo and are just loud voices even though they aren't purposefully being loud. I don't usually have to tell any of the daycare kids to tone it down so its not really an issue at home.
