Please Stay On The Entrance Rug And Not On My Carpets

And here we go again......2 weeks ago I shampooed my living room carpets. I have an area rug 5 x 7 at the entrance way, plenty of room for people to stand and put coats on and take them off, etc. But why oh why, do I constantly have the same couple people that will not stay on the area rug...Why oh why. Today it is raining, the leaves are down, and in they come, walked right off the area rug thru the room to pick up their kid. Carpets are now wet and there are now wet leaves left behind. Rude, disrespectful and frustrating.

So, Do I put a sign on my front door Again that says "Please keep shoes on the area rug", or do I smack them up side the head the next time they do it. Seriously, does it really take that much in brain juice to keep wet feet on the rug provided at the entrance.

My neighbors across the street have a sign at their front door big enough for me to see. It has a big red circle with shoes in the middle with a red line across them.

I chuckle when I see parents take their shoes off at the car and put on slippers before going up to the front door. They have shelves at the door and the parents slip off the slippers and put them on the shelves before entering the house. They come out, put their slippers back on, walk to the car, and change into their shoes.

I wonder if there is a "leave the rug" fee? You should have one.

I would be steaming mad if I were you too! ((((hugs))))

This used to be an ongoing issue here when we had carpeting. UGH! I had parents coming in with mud on their shoes and making such a mess and it made me crazy! I finally implemented "NO shoes allowed in my home" and had a sign on my front door reminding everyone.

We now have hardwood flooring, so I have relaxed this policy, but it can be so frustrating. I am always amazed at how clueless some people can be and it's very rude and disrespectful.

the day after I put down a new, almost white carpet in my living room (15 years ago-another house), one of my dc parents walks in with muddy boots, walks out of the tiled entry area, and leaves muddy tracks all over the carpet. I didn't even know what to say. I really liked this lady, too. just arggg!

I used to have no shoes either, after a while, parents actuallys started buying slip on shoes to make it easier...

Right now, I only have two families, and they stay on the entry rug. Their children, however, have not yet gotten a clue, and one mom isn't always in control of things. I had to nab the 3yo dcg on the way in this morning..ah ah ah....bench, shoes off!

OHHHH that would drive me up the wall!! I would maybe send a little note home saying that with the weather changing, you would appreciate dirty shoes to be kept on the rug provided.

You should tell them that it's costing you $$ to shampoo your carpets so if it keeps up rates will have to increase to help with these increasing costs!!!! LOL I bet it will stop ASAP!! ::

Hopefully these parents smarten up!! Geez...where has common sense and respect gone?!?! Good luck!

x pen or baby gate them off.

When they question it tell them that you have certain parents that don't respect your wishes so they have to be treated like dogs until they obey. ::

I have a covered front porch, on rainy days or snowy(ick) parents say bye on the front porch, then I LIFT the child on the mat and remove the wetness. This keeps all the gunk outside.
Other days, I sit on the doorway to the daycare right off my little front room. I "help" the kids get stuff off, and it keeps parents out of my carpeted area. Since right when you walk in is for the crawlers, I tell the kids, no shoes on carpet, if their parent starts to head toward it. Then the kids can yell at their parents.

I had one dad try to STEP OVER me, I said no no I sit here for a reason, no shoes on the carpet. LOL

seriously??? that is just plain rude!!! What do you say the instant they step off the area rug?? I think that is when you have to nail them. If you've communicated this request before the minute they step onto your carpet I'd say something a little snarky about it.
I can't believe how disrespectful people can be!!
