These Girls Have Had The Same Cough/Sickness For Two Months And Parents Do Nothing...

I watch these two girls that have had a HORRIBLE cough for at least the last two months. At first the parents tried to say that it was allergies, but allergies aren't contagious! They are sisters and just keep giving it back to eachother. Its a heavy deep cough but 75% of the time it doesn't have the other symptoms like vomiting, green mucus, crusty eyes, etc. When they get those symptoms I send them away. But they cough while sleeping (they arrive at 6am) and ALL DAY long and it just exhausts them! The parents haven't taken them to a dr. to be seen... they are rarely even bathed. I spend my entire day just keeping them in one room with a few select toys and constantly sanitizing so that my children don't get it (they did once). But without the 'concerning sypmtoms' and just the awful cough... how do I tell a parent that they can't come until the cough is gone?? Especially since it helps pay my bills! I'm just at a loss. I don't want these children to continue to be restricted because they are sick all the time. I just feel awful about the whole situation.

I have often told my parents that they need to take their sick kid in to be checked out to make sure it is not something more serious or contagious. I just tell them they cannot come back until a doctor has seen them. I will make a determination at that time, it is for the good of the whole group.

I have not had a parent ever Not take their child in if I have recommended it.

It's time to require a dr's note stating that they have allergies and not bronchitis or something else.

I guess I should have mentioned that she works in the health field for a major pharmacy. She can get a "Dr's note" written up at work... So how can I believe that the kids will actually be seen?

          Simple

require her to provide written consent for YOU to talk to the Dr who sees the kid and for that Doc to talk to you.

That way YOU can tell them that the kids have been coughing for two months.
