To Term or Not to term

Trying to figure out how to make this short & sweet. I had previously posted regarding a dcf that during the interview process said she would never need me when school is closed because she would be off too (she is school staff).

Today is a teachers union day & I assumed (I know I shouldnt) she was off too & early this week she said she does work today. I have doubted it all along. Anyway, I told her that assuming she didnt need me today, I made appointments so I wouldnt have to close another day, when everyone was working. (I have all teachers kids).

She then questioned the fee for the day. I told her not to pay me for the day bc I was not available.

Well she did not work today. I am so mad.

I have lost sleep this week bc I felt she has not been honest with me. (this and other things)

    What would you do?????

Did she not go to work because she didn't have child care?

Did ANY of your other families work today? How did you find out that she didn't work today either?

I would tell her that payment is still due. It's the rate you charge every week regardless of attendance. Any "extra" they feel they have paid goes to holding the spot.

If no other family worked today and she didn't either but lied about it and said she would need childcare, I wouldn't offer it.

On another note, if you decide to keep her, I'd ask for their school schedule for the entire year up front. That way you'll know what days she does and doesn't work. This way there's no more question about it.

No other families today. And had she not mentioned her dcc was getting vaccinations thurs afternoon & his dr says to give tylenol for 24 hrs after & if I was comfortable giving dcc tylenol friday, she wouldve been knocking on my door this morning. I questioned her working friday. I told her I had made appointments for friday bc she had told me she would never need me when school is closed.

She lives close to me. She was home when I took dd to dr. There are more details too.

Our contract states that they pay as long as I am available. I guess today I wasnt available. So she didnt pay.

There are alot of other issues w/ this family. I try to give the benefit of the doubt, but I would put money on this was planned.

            I don't doubt it.

I don't appreciate families defying my policies and lying to my face. It taints our relationship, causes additional and unnecessary stresses, and they go on thinking nothing in wrong.

I'd term based on that. (Especially if there are other issues.)

I agree that you should terminate, you should not be treated that way.

I would recommend tweaking your contract a little with future families. Maybe spelling things out a little more exactly. They should provide you with a list of days off that are PAID, and well as whatever else you get paid (Holidays? Their Vacations). I have a mom who gets furlough days, and each year we update the contract to clarify those.

Then you can add something about what are considered unpaid days (your sick days, appointments?).
