Makes Me Tired Just Reading It!

Craigslist ad in my area. Oh my.....all I can say is good luck and I hope the money makes it worth it!

I will have 3 full time openings at my in home daycare starting November 14th. I am a stay at home mom. I offer healthy balanced meals, outside play time (weather permitting), reading circles, fieldtrips and individualized attention. I am open for drop off at 6am and close regular hours at 6:30pm. I am also available OUTSIDE of those hours with a slight pay difference for all those early mornings shifts or late workers. I am ALSO available overnights and weekends, again for a different pay. Sick kid? No problem, just leave your written consent and instructions for care.

I am a mother of 2, my 6 year old is in school until 4pm and I have a 3 year old daughter at home with me. We are currently doing construction on the house to adapt to the daycare, thus the prolonged availability date. I was a certified nursing assistant and CPR trained and certified in 2007. I am currently in my 2nd year of college studying Early Childhood Education. I will be certified by the state of Wisconsin by November 1st. Please email with any questions or a rate quote. I would be more than willing to set up a time for an interview or "trial" as well.

Please note I do have two friendly dogs that will be locked up during daycare hours with NO access to the children.

    Thank you for your consideration.

Something about these types of ads (I find the long-winded ones on my local cl too) always makes me think that these dcp's are either anal, OCD or both .

But I'm sure they're perfectly nice people who just like to use a lot of words.

        Sounds kinda like me.

I have a houseful of sickos and have been working 12-14 hours ever day. I also have two babies of my own at home. Contract revisions are underway but once it's gone on so long....

I'd even advertised for nights when I started to get nervous/desperate about not getting any calls for clients but thankfully filled up with day shifters.

I think people sometimes feel they have to cater to the entire society, . Also, the night shift thing seems to be a good target as most providers only choose to work days.

Having education as a nursing assistant and in ece seems really good too so hopefully she can eventually get to a more manageable place in her daycare....unless she doesn't mind kids in her house all hours of the day. (I honestly cringe to think about it). I really value that time that is just for my family and need a closing time.

This ad would scare me as a parent. She provides sick care WHILE taking care of healthy kids too? plus she is a mom, student, renovating the house, working all hours and claims to provide individualized attention?

My gut is telling me that these are reasons why she is not getting kids so she tells all this up front and then promises all hours to try and get parents past that.

See this is exactly what I was thinking! Going to college, starting a daycare, has 2 kids of her own, and is basically willing to work 24/7 with sick kids! Ugh. I'd burn out within a week.

Sounds to me like this ad is from someone looking to survive in a very tough economy. She seems to be trying to offer things that will set her apart from others.

I honestly didn't think her ad was overly lengthy, it seemed to cover all the bases so she could eliminate callers who called just to ask that stuff (which seemed pretty standard).

I don't know, I do not advertise on CL nor do providers in my area so I am unfamiliar with how the ads normally look.

FWIW~ I was a full time college student, raising 2 kids, working 14 hour days and accepting sick daycare kids when I first opened. I am still here and have been in business for almost 2 decades now. She may tweak her policies and hours as she learns the ropes but I wouldn't necessarily count her out just yet.

how do you provide sick care while not exposing yourself and the other kids to an illness?

I just could not do that. some of my daycare kids have come in with some scary stuff (not just colds and coughs).

Ear infections, colds, coughs, things that don't require antibiotics....stuff that isn't necessarily avoidable. The other kids were exposed. They sometimes did get sick too but the things I allowed waaaay back then were things that most kids pick up just going out in public, playing at McDonald's or from their SA siblings. General all around "I just don't feel well" stuff.

Kids built up immunities and seemed to not get sick again very often. But again, this was how I did things when I first opened. I have since learned what works and what doesn't and taking care of sick kids doesn't work for me.

I was just stating that this mom is not doing anything odd that many providers did when they first opened up for business.

As far as me being exposed or sick, I guess I am just lucky (or healthy) because I RARELY, if ever, get sick. I am not jinxing myself because I say it all the time....I may get a slight head cold once a year but I basically am never sick. I recognize the importance of taking care of myself, eating right, exercising and preventative behavior. Oh, and I am the least stressed out person you will ever come across.

I don't think it was lengthy at all. What made me tired was thinking about this poor lady going to school and taking care of all these kids 24/7 while some of them are sick!

If you can do it, more power to ya, but I couldn't do it.

gottcha.. I misunderstood what you thought was lengthy.

It is possible to do but NOT for very long!

Sadly, like all new providers, she will figure it out in due time. More power to her in the mean time.

I just read one that said "rates are negotiable...I know not everyone makes the same amount of money, call and tell me what hours you need and what you are comfortable paying and we will go from there".

She won't get newborns or kids new to child care but she will get kids who have had parents miss a bunch of work cuz of their sick kid.

She just needs to say words about how she can magically manage to give the one to one the sick kid needs while providing protection for the other kids and giving them a stellar day.

If she sells it right she'll get customers.

Problem is it doesn't work to keep sick kids and once you say you do keep sick kids and just do as the parent and doctor orders... then what YOU believe is reasonable sick becomes care for really sick kids really quickly.

It's hard enough to keep sick kids out of the day care when you don't allow them. I can't imagine how hard it is to keep really sick kids out of day care when you allow sick kids.

Keeping herself and her own kids free from illness is going to be tough.
