    Fleas!

How on this lovely green earth do you get rid of them? I have treated my dog multiple times nothing seems to be working. My poor DS is taking the brunt of it as the dog was sleeping in his room. I am at my wits end. I don't see them on my dog, at the worst I saw two on the dog. But my son has bites and says they're all over his room. UGH After being an animal owner for decades I have never had this problem.:confused:

Short of getting rid of sparky Please PLEASE tell me what to do to help his room?

You have a HUGE cleaning job ahead of you. Roll up your sleeves and get ready.

First, you probably want to switch up the flea medication you're using. Fleas get tolerant of certain ones and a change will help kill them.

Second, you're probably going to want to have your carpets steam cleaned. You should also use nasty flea-killing chemicals all throughout your house. Yeah, it ****s, I know--but to really kill a bad infestation, you have to. I learned that the hard way a few years ago. Make sure what you're using kills them at all life stages.

Third, you will want to make sure that everything--EVERYTHING--gets a good cleaning--beds, sheets, everything.

Fourth, bathe the dog in flea-shampoo. And then do it again. And again. And again until the fleas are gone.

Fifth, get the dog treated for tapeworm. Don't wait until you spot tapeworm segments crawling out of his butt (true story but it was with a cat...and it about made me vomit)...just go to the vet, tell them that you've had a flea problem and are concerned about tapeworm, and they'll probably treat him.

Fleas are pervasive. I admire them for their survival abilities--while giving no mercy and no quarter 'cause I don't want them even though I admire them.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

We use the new pill form of flea meds available at the vet, it's only $18 per month and works like a charm! Previously we used the liquid you put on their upper neck but it was starting to not work as well..........try it!

Your vacuum needs to become your best friend. Silver has it right...persisant fleas are hard to get rid of. The eggs can last for 6 months I think so you have to vacuum as much as you can every day and then empty the bag or canister outside. They will crawl back out of the vacuum. Ick.

My INDOOR cat had fleas last month. I'm assuming we carried them in on our clothes. I vacuumed the furniture and carpets daily for 2 weeks. I also washed the floors and wiped the baseboards and surfaces down. This is after a deep cleaning and spraying.

All of the stuffies in your son's room can be bagged for 2 weeks in airtight bags instead of cleaning but anything that can be washed, should be.

Mom got fleas but because my brother was had a trach, we couldn'lt use anything in the house. I sprinkled salt all over the carpet, let it set for a couple of days, vacuumed, repeated. I finally got rid of them.

How many times did you have to repeat? I've never heard of salt.

Fleas need a blood host. Made sure you first take care of your pets with a treatment like Advantage: http://www.1800petmeds.com/Advantage+II+-prod10433.html

Regularly clean with a powerful vacuum.

thanks guys. I just ran to the vet and got something with an "A" . Will washing his bedding in hot water at least kill them where the dog was sleeping?

I don't know if washing will kill them but it will most likely wash away the eggs.

Mom put the drops on the cats. I think I sprinkled the salt 3xs over a week before I stopped being eaten to death.

In addition to all of the above ask your vet or groomer if they still do flea dips. One of our dogs had them years ago, before they came out with the Advantage type products, and the flea dip was the final thing we did that got rid of them forever. Ick. Makes me itch just remembering it ::.

I've had infestations in the past - before they made Advantage. Make sure you re-apply the "A" Advantage/Advantix - whatever the Vet gave you on the 30 day mark exactly.

I found the Raid Flea Killer Plus Carpet and Room spray worked well. It's a black can with purple on it.

Like everyone else said - vacuum, vacuum and stay with it.

Make sure you strip down your son's bedding as he probably has fleas in his bed since the dog hangs in there.

I actually found it was harder to rid the house of fleas when it was just wood floors - their eggs got down in the cracks. With carpeting the sprays and whatnot linger.

Check into using Borax on the carpets if you're looking for something that's not so chemical. You can find it in the Laundry Detergent Section.

Ok I'm itching now. Hang in there.

build a traveling circus and post a help wanted sign
"God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.'"

We also used the Raid spray. Worked awesome and believe me we tried everything else. In addition to our flea treatment for our dogs we also bought Capstar. It kills the fleas that are on your pet within 30 mins.
