    Napping: Cots, Mat, Sheets

I am in Il and I think I need to have cots for the children to sleep on. Can anyone tell me if that is correct or can I use mats or sheets?

    Illinois regs say:

A separate sleeping arrangement, such as a bed, cot, crib, or playpen, with individual bedding, shall be provided for each child who naps or sleeps while in care. A twin size bed may be used for 2 children under age 4, provided each child shall have individual sheets.
    A) The bed shall be kept in a clean and sanitary condition at all times, and bedding shall be suitable for the season.
    B) Family beds may be used for children if separate linens are used.
C)Rubber sheets shall be used when necessary.

I would never allow kids to sleep in the same bed much less a family bed.

How are they supposed to have individual sheets if they're sleeping in the same bed???

I wish we could use mats. It would be so much easier.

Here is the definition that they have for cot.

“Cot” means a comfortable, safe and child-sized alternative bed made of resilient, fire retardant, sanitizable fabric that is on legs or otherwise above the floor and can be stored to allow for air flow.

According to one of the reps I've had over the years, you can put them foot-to-foot, each with their own sheet, pillow and blanket. There's no way I would do that, but that's what he said.

You should see the rest of our regs - tame compared to most states .

Sounds like Illinois is making napping really complicated.

Maybe the state is in cahoots with parents so that if the napping requirments are too difficult to interpret or to actually do,then the kiddos will all just not have to nap......

You could be on to something - our regs also say this (my emphasis added):

"Routines such as naps and feedings shall be discussed with the parents and shall be consistent with the child's routine at home.

Fortunately nobody has ever called me on it or I'd have a bunch of non-napping toddlers in care ::.

OMG!! I can just imagine how parents would interpret that!!! Routines that are consistent with the ones they have at home!?!? I am NOT doing McDonald's for lunch, Cartoon Network for educational purposes and having a free for all during play time!! Uh, Nope!

I have one DCB that sleeps in a twin bed but he's the only one that sleeps in it (it's an extra bed). That's the only reason he's not on a cot like the rest of the kids. Ew. Ew. Ew.

well I got cots and am moving forward. I don't want the kids sleeping in my beds or too close to each other. I want them all to have time to rest. They need it and I need it. It is imp. for my children to rest so I can rest at night. So I got 6 and if I get more kids. My children will sleep in the family bed.

I use pp for most of mine right now, but I also have a few daycare cots (those blue ones with the legs) that someone kindly donated to me. I HATE them! They look uncomfortable, and every time I move them, I bang up my shins.

In the olden days, I had crib mattresses for cots, and those worked great. I have some on my wish list for next year, and bye bye blue cots!
