Does Anyone Do FCC Away From Home?

Just wondering if anyone here does family childcare in a house other than their primary residence.

Due to the foreclosers in a town nearby, there are some houses listed under $40k. My dh HATES the daycare taking up half our house, and we are out in the country a bit, so I may do better in town.

I'm at the beginning stages of considering this...like maybe next spring

I have a daycare home I am ready to sell. House, and EVERYTHING you would ever need for dayare all in one!!

I really wish I could sell it as a daycare, but it looks like I will be selling it off piece by piece. I would love to see it go to a person who wanted to continue it. It will be sad to break it apart.

yep. I live in 7 miles out of town in a rural area. I bought a 2 bedroom house in town and have it set up for daycare only. No one lives there. I am licensed as a family childcare provider like anyone else in my state who does it in their homes. My daycare home is zoned residential and I am not required to do anything different that regular family childcare providers except I pay non-homestead property taxes that are a lot more than regular property taxes but it is worth it! I would NEVER do it any other way!

I have a ton of respect for those that do this in their homes and mix family with daycare.

Meeko also has a separate home but her son lives there, although she is the care provider. ( I am unsure of how she is licensed or how her state does it compared to mine)

Sugar Magnolia also owns a separate facility but she is licensed as a center and went through a long process with zoning, and city rules and regs to do it.

Depending on your state rules and reg, I can maybe help if you have any questions about operating out of a home I do not live in.

I wish, I wish with all my heart that we could do daycare out of a separate house. ::looks around at plague-ridden house and sighs::

But it would not be cost effective for the number of kids I can have right now, although it *might* be cost effective if I could do it outside my county, where I could be a larger child care with double the number of kids.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

How many kids can you have Silver?

I guess I didn't think to mention the downfalls....I MUST stay full at all times to stay in the black. I keep 10-12 kids daily and if I drop below 10, I don't make as much as I pay out.

The nice thing though is EVERYTHING I do/pay here is 100% tax deductible so it is nice to not do the whole t/s percentage thing.

A couple possibilities. Haven't seen them in person, so I don't know about the outside areas. The first one is a pigsty right now, but a little paint and elbow grease????

I like the layout of the second one. I hated the house we bought at first but the floor plan was so open that I now view it as ideal.

My house was in the same shape as the ones you posted. But a little elbow grease and lot of TLC and I love it now.

Here is the thread link to pictures of my daycare so you can get an idea of what my space looks like inside.

Daycare Center and Family Home owners, Directors, Operators and Assistants should post and ask questions here.

The 2nd one is in a really good location, if the yard is suitable. Accross from Kwik Trip (convenience store), right on the main road through town, 2 blocks from libary and 3 from a park. Oh, and that church steeple right behind it is the Catholic church/school, where my dcb goes to pre-k, and surely his sibs will too. Parking may be an issue (will look for myself), and it's a bit small, but it's only $19,0000!

                Very cute, BlackCat!

My set up works for our family...but the state requires a licensee to actually LIVE in the home they are doing day care in. For this reason my son is the licensee even though I run the show! It's kinda silly really....but if he didn't live there, we couldn't be family group. I was the licensee when we lived there...so the home has been a licensed facility for years and years. But when we bought our home in the next town over, my son had to go through the whole licensing process as if we were just starting up. It was maddening.

I can have 6, including my own until age 6. So, 4 right now.

in a different county I could get licensed for up to 12 though

Yeah, I could hardly pay the heat/electric bill with 4 and never in the winter months with only 6.

The house next door to me is for sale at $90,000 and I'd LOVE to buy it for daycare......it sits on a HUGE lot at the end of the court. The only problem is I'd have to get a conditional use permit, renovate it and license it as a center. I'd totally do it if I could be 100% sure I'd get the CUP and licensed, but that's always a toss up....you don't know about the CUP until you pay the $6000 and they go through the process....it can always be denied.

If I were you and you could do it easily, I say GO FOR IT!
