    Do Ever Wake An Infant??

I've always been of the mindset to let a sleeping baby lie. So just wondering who wakes infants after a particular amount of time.

I have a 6 month old who started when he was 3 months old. He's always been a cat napper (45 mins morning and afternoon) but we've been working on lengthening his sleeping time.

Well today I put him down at 9:15a and it's now 12:30p. Now don't get me wrong I've been able to do so much during his nap (preschool activities, prepare and clean up lunch and get the older kids ready for nap).

I'm just wondering if any of you would wake him or just be thankful that his body is getting some much needed rest.

I've checked on him every 10 minutes since he went down but he's still out like a light.

    I let babies sleep.

I will say I HATE when they do this bc I have about ten mini strokes that there is something wrong!

When they have been asleep two hours longer than normal I have been known to open the door to the nursery and let the extra noise wake the baby up.

He is prob going through a growth spurt and needs the extra sleep....keep checking on him and enjoy youtr extra time.

Personally, I wake them, . If they are fussy I let them nap 5-10 min, but I prefer my children to take a nap together, I gradually get them all on the same schedule, so I may get 20 min that everyone is sleeping to use the bathroom, get some coffee and refix my ponytail. it works for us and typically by about 6-8 months my infants take a 15-20 min nap mid morning and then go down for 2 hours with the big kids. I work 4am - 6pm and I need some regrouping time mid day.

I generally let them get the extra sleep - figure there is always a reason they need it - but for a baby who has been asleep 3+ hours that normally only sleeps 45 min. I might be inclined to wake him slowly now or soon just to not throw off his entire day.

I do pretty much the same thing when I have infants. We are supposed to let them sleep on their own schedule, so I try to be respectful. We are allowed to wake them for an "activity" or something along those lines, so I just time our morning walks for when I want them up, usually after 45 min or so. Oddly enough, I can never find a reason to wake them up in the afternoon!

I think it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you are going to let him sleep whenever from here on out let him sleep. If you are trying to get him on a schedule then I would wake him and work towards getting him on the schedule of the other kids. By 6 months I work to get my infants on a similar nap schedule as the other kids but it takes weeks of planning/entertaining when they are tired to get them to the regular nap time.

Oh I'll wake them up. I don't like the little ones to take too long of a morning nap. I need that break in the afternoon and want ALL the kids to sleep at the same time.......so I only let the infants sleep an hour in the morning.

I let them sleep. I often find if they awake before they are ready that they are crabby/fussy/and clingy. It also depends on the nature of the baby too. Some are more fine with it than others. I've had a few that you could put them down later/shorten the nap to try to get them with the group easier, and others at 9 am period they are going to sleep for 3 hours period no if and or buts about the situation.

It depends on the age but after a certain point, I wake them to keep them on a routine. The exception would be if they just got back from travelling or being sick and I know they need the extra rest. Otherwise, it turns into a situation where all the other kids are napping and the one is up and off the schedule. I need a no-kids break!
