    quiet time

What are some things you use to keep them quiet at nap time for children who don't nap. My one friend is having a hard time with one of her dcb who is two and causing major issues with everyone at nap time.

He is 2? He NEEDS a nap. It would not even be an option for me to allow a child at that age to stay awake. If I have a child who is causing problems I sit next to their nap mat until they fall asleep. If they are still in a PNP I put them in a separate room to sleep so they can't disturb the other children.

Not all 2 year olds need naps. My son stopped napping at 2 1/2, never needed it after that. I wasnt happy about it, and wished he hadnt stopped. But if he napped, then he wouldnt go to sleep at night until midnight. Every child is different.

THAT BEING SAID, ALL children in my home "nap", under age 5. Once they are school age I dont make them lay down, but they have to play with quiet toys, puzzles, crafts, etc. School age is only home when there is no school, so its usually not an issue. Under age 5 can sleep, or have quiet time, but they ALL lay down on mats and are quiet. They arent given a choice. They can take a book, stuffed animal or quiet toy with them to nap if they wish, but they MUST lay on their mat and not disturb the others.

I have one in my group that never naps well, 2 years old, naps 15-20 minutes daily, the others in the group nap for hours. I just seperate her in another area, so she isnt directly next to the good sleepers.

I also play soft classical music at naptime. It helps them fall asleep, and it masks the noises of the ones who arnet sleeping, so it doesnt wake up the sleepers.

I have all three year olds, but, I play the spa music and sit directly next to the one who is having a hard time winding down so they can fall asleep.
            I love my job!

I'm glad you said something cause my daughter is 2 1/2 and doesn't nap. When she does nap she's up late at night. Now that she doesn't nap she's out cold by 8:30. On nights that she doesn't sleep well then she'll take a nap. She gets up about 8 so if she goes to bed 8-9 o'clock she's getting about 12 hours.
