    Pet Peeve

OK SO, I have done this job for 26 years and I have this silly pet peeve.....It drives me nuts that these kids chew on the spouts of their sippy cups. I have tried SO MANY different brands, trying to find something that they won't think they can bite on......I'm tired of having chewing chew marks on them..... I'm constantly telling these munchinks 'dont bite your cup' as if I really expect them to listen..........anyone else find a brand that they cant leave bite marks on??

I gave up on that and started using straws. they chew them up then nothing comes out and they dont get a new one....they learned really quick not to chew on their straws...

I use the toss and go cups that have lids with a hole for the straw. after meals the kids take thier cups and toss them in the sink. I open them and then let them soak in the bubbles/tea spoon of bleach until lunch time. I then take them out and rinse them very well, they get dried and then are used again for each meal this same way..

I threw out all of my sippy ciys as i refused to try to clean the spouts where mold collected....

good idea. I'll try that. I give them each their own color so they know which is theirs (teaching the younger ones their colors) but geez, why do even the older ones who are no longer teething have to chew on these darn things!! Drives me nuts

Def. the ones with the straws!! Playtex makes them. There called Playtex Lil Gripper Straw kid's cups and there $7.99. One of my 2 1/2 yr olds comes in with one and he doesn't bit on it at all but it does make these funny noises. I guess I'd take that over biting on the spout..!!

                  You don't.

Lids are only given to the kids while they are just starting to learn to drink. By the time they are good at lifting the cup to their mouth on their own, the lid is removed and only small amounts of liquids are added until they are good with a full cup without spilling more than 50% of the time.

I use 5 oz dixie cups and start by adding just a swallow or two at a time. My 3 youngest kids were very proficient with a cup by 12-14 months of age.

It does take time, patience and alot of paper towels but doesn't childhood in general?!?

                    Lol yes it does.
I guess you can call me lazy. I love my carpet so I use lids and straws to avoid the extra clean up. Lol
However, I'm gonna try that with my own child.
                    Thanks...

I have carpet in my kitchen....(like seriously who puts carpet in the kitchen?!?!) but anyways I can guarantee you that my rules would be different if I actually lived in my daycare home, so with that being said, I would probably be lazy (although I don't think it is laziness) too!

OT; I hate carpet. I also hate light fixtures and window treatments too!! LOL!! When we built our new house, I insisted that we have zero carpet (we have all hardwood floors and tile),
no window treatments (we live in the woods with no neighbors)
and no light fixtures (just can lighting and sunshine. When it gets dark you go to bed.)

Ok, I'm lazy but since you guys seem to have this down I am totally going to try this in my home...I have tile floors and wooden so I don't worry much about the spills...but this will be my newest challenge!!

Well, I'll give the older ones a cup without the lid, if they can show me they won't make a mess....but the toddlers, no way. I'm not going to be wiping up after them every time the drink.

I still have the cups I started doing day care with and we are on the fourth generation of lids. Sorry to say but I think I will have to redo when these get completely chewed up. I don't think they make the lids anymore. i bought a big reserve a few years back and can't find them.

I don't care if they chew on them. It's a loosing battle: a thick pronged piece that is supposed to go in their mouth is going to get chewed on. The ones I have are really high quality so it takes a long time to wear them out but I'm thinking this last batch will be soon.

My kids are REALLY good about not mouthing toys. I don't have any but the infant now that does it. I think they get their chew on with my lids.

I wouldn't do no lids because the milk I buy for them is CRAZY expensive. I would rather replace lids than milk. the cup of milk cost more than the darn lids.
