Delicate Situation - How to Catch a Thief

We had some money come up missing recently and have cameras that are getting installed to hopefully catch whoever took the money! Hopefully we can get them caught!

We have a office and who we suspect did it, took it from the drawer in the office.

Unfortunately, it's too late for the cameras to catch the thief who took the money this time. Hopefully the cameras will be a deterrent for future thefts, though.

Here's what's bad though about the whole thing is that it was an employee's spouse that took it. Do any of you have an employee visitor policy for your employees that own a center?

I’d keep the office door locked at all times and only accessible via a key that is assigned to one person per shift.
If the office is accessible to everyone, this was just an opportunity for anyone to take it
Id never keep money in a non-secure location.
Hopefully it was a very minimal amount and the police were called or at the very least that it was reported to them

If you wanted to catch and prosecute them, you should mark the bills and hide a camera first before making the cameras obvious. That way if you get them on camera in the drawer, the police will be able to prove they took the money. Otherwise they’ll say they took paper clips.

well, we would but the dead bolt on the door doesn't have a key to go with it so that's why we don't have it locked but the owner is fixing to redo the whole office and get a lockbox to where we can keep money and other important things in it and only she, the assistant director and one other person has access to it
