    Nap Time Problems

What is up with kids not napping?!

With the exception of two kids, most of my group aged out this school year. This whole group of toddlers is 15 months to 2.5 YO. They each will nap 20-30 minutes and then one by one, they wake up and will collectively babble to themselves. The one positive: they remain still on their cots.

The 2.5YO will flip flop around and mumble. When I ignore it, he gets louder. When I shush him, the 15 month old cries. So shushing them doesn’t work. I have them strategically placed so they can’t see each others faces. I make sure we play outside from 10:00 to 12:30. With the exception of fruit, I don’t serve anything at lunch with sugar in it. It’s just milk/water. I have a white noise machine going with the blinds and black out curtains closed. Coincidentally, the two older kids are going to be out all week, so there isn’t anyone here to set a good example.

    Any suggestions?

We play outside most of the morning, and here’s my nap time setup that works pretty well: blackout curtains, two color-changing nightlights, white noise machine, and I keep the room cool. Also, they sleep with 5 lb weighted blankets. The blankets seem to help them feel secure. One more thing I do is have each cot beside something, so that no one is sleeping out in open space, if that makes sense.

That’s pretty much my set up too, besides the nightlight. They’re in the corners so they’re against something and won’t feel so open. I am just at a loss over here

How frustrating! Hopefully they’ll settle into a good routine soon.

Ironically - I had turkey sandwiches on the menu yesterday and they did so much better! LOL I hope that they fill up on pizza today and I have the same result.

Monday was ROUGH! But I also opened later than normal because of an appointment. One DCB ruined it for the group and didn’t nap. When I told DCM she said she let him sleep in since I opened later. Sooooo they won’t get the half day option anymore.

The rest of the week has been great! DCK are napping at least two hours. The ones that don’t nap have figured out how to be quiet.
