    Family Engagement

How do you include families in your home day cares. I am having a hard time finding ways to include families. Some just drop off and pick up and not really stay to see what their child is learning. I really want to include them more to help build teacher family relationships. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can do that?

You could send out a newsletter with a lesson plan calendar.

Have a parent night and display what you are working on.

Have Parent-Teacher conference, where you sit one on one with each parent.

I have calendars and emails keeping them up to date on our adventures.
I don't allow parents to be around any child other than their own and so don't allow them to hang out.
I used to....then discovered the dad who liked to hang out..a lot...was a sex offender who had done time in another state for rape of a child. He went back for life because we found he was abusing his own daughter. The fact I was inviting this guy into my home and he was interacting with my littles makes me sick to this day. He seemed so nice.
        Never again.
