We use to have a policy that kids could bring electronics on Fridays during share day but that we're not responsible if it got lost or stolen, With it being summer and everything I know kids get bored especially during nap. But here lately kids are bringing electronics when it is not share day to use during nap and then they are put up. What are your thoughts on this?

Welcome to the forum. I think bringing electronics into a daycare is opening a Pandora’s box when children are younger. It’s not so much that the devices can get lost or stolen but that they become addictive and ultimately a distraction. Arts and crafts, sensory tables and more traditional curriculum are better served. I would suggest you update, notify and enforce the “no electrical devices from home” section.- Flag

I don’t enroll school age children anymore and I don’t allow electronics of any kind. If they come in with it, it gets put up on a shelf that only I can get to. I had a bad experience with SA kids googling inappropriate things the first year I was open.
I recently had a prospective family tell me their child won’t nap but would watch his iPad. I explained the iPad wasn’t allowed at daycare. They didn’t enroll.Last edited by girlmomma; 06-14-2023, 11:58 AM.- Flag

girlmomma we had a policy similar to what you had several years ago but the thing is that since then things have changed, we recently acquired a new owner who also use to be my coworker and it's not necessarily the parents that are allowing them to be brought in, it's the employee's kids thats doing it because supposedly, "they won't sleep". Michael I need you to email me ASAP regarding my account please. (csewell472@gmail.com)- Flag

No school-agers here anymore, either, but I would have a strictly enforced policy against them bringing electronics if I did enroll kids that age. So many things can go wrong….finding inappropriate material, like girlmomma mentioned, plus the possibility of other kids being recorded, etc.
Is there not a daycare worker for the school-age kids? That person should be planning activities for them during nap.- Flag

I have a school ager and no electronics allowed policy even on Friday.
Because if you give a mouse a cookie your never going to get rid of him.- Flag
