    Middle School Children Volunteer

One a middle child who is in 7th grade aged 11 years 7 months wanted to volunteer at my daycare for his community hours. I am not sure about this because he is so young. I have small after school program and have 8 kids already. I do not know what to do. Anyone , please give me some idea. I do not want to hurt this kid's feelings.

check with licensing here in California that child would have to count in your ratio
unless finger printed (and 16 I think) and could never be left alone with the children.

      child volunteer

Yes, first check with your child care licensor to see if this is allowed. If so, you need to make sure you are able to keep all children, including the volunteer safe.

Here in ND they would still count in my capacity and ratios so they could come but only if I have space. That said, kids that age can be very helpful so if they need some times of care maybe he could come and help and you just don't charge if you have the room.
