W-10 And End Of The Year Receipts

    Tom

What is the rule for when a "friend" of a past parent brings me a W-10 on the past parents behalf...this past parent doesn't want to come and face me so she is sending her friend and asking me to fill out the W-10. I would have no problem filling out the W-10 but this past parent also owes me money and late fees. So just needing some advice on how to handle this.

      W-10

You are under no requirement to fill out a W-10 and give it to the parent. You can:
A: Fill it out and move on. Forget about collecting the money. Don't make the parent any more upset so she might bad mouth you to others.
B: Refuse to fill it out until the parent pays you.

I'd probably choose B if it was me, but you risk a downside of further upsetting a parent.
