    Tom - Claiming a Mattress??

My friend recently bought a new mattress set for her bed and we were debating whether it could be a time/space deduction or not. No children nap on the mattress but she folds laundry, including daycare laundry, on it. She also makes gifts for the children and since her sewing machine is in the bedroom the bed is often used as a table.

    What's your verdict?

Since she is not using the mattress as a bed, I'd say it's not deductible. Otherwise you could deduct many things that were only used as a table when that wasn't their main function.
