    Sewing for ECI

Our ECI needed weighted vests. I offered to make them, along with some much needed lap pads. I planned to do them for free, and I put the time on my after hours calendar. Then, they got a grant to be used for them. After much argument, I gave in and we agreed on a price.

So, how do I put this on taxes? It was under $75 in 2015, even less actually since I furnished some of the fabric. It should be more in 2016. Do I include it in my daycare income, or consider it a separate business?

I will need to go back and remove it from my after hours won't I? If I convince them to let me do it without pay, can it count in my after hours then?

I am not sure you can count the hours if it isn't for your daycare? I am not sure though.

What is ECI? Unless it's related to daycare, treat it as a separate business and file a separate Schedule C showing the grant as income and your expenses. Assuming this is not related to daycare, don't count the hours. Hours only count when they are for daycare related activities.

ECI is Early childhood intervention. Since I have a special needs dck, I have therapists in and out of my daycare. When one of my kids needed a special vest (he is no longer here), and they said they didn't have any for him, I offered to make them. None of my current kids need one, but that could change as I get new kids.. So, in a way, it is daycare related, but not exactly.

Unless you are caring for ECI children, I would treat this separately from your daycare business.

I currently have 1 ECI child, although I had 2 when I started. I think I'll just not claim the hours. Thanks.
