    Deducting classes?

I paid out-of-pocket for two college classes this year to renew my Early Childhood Education teaching license. Each class was $1100 and text books were $100-$250 for each class. Can I deduct any of this for the year?

If you weren't trying to get a college degree, you can deduct 100% of the cost of the classes and books (and mileage and any time you spent at home doing homework when children were not present).

If you were taking these classes to get your first post-secondary degree, you can't deduct any of these costs, miles or hours.

If you already have a post-secondary degree you can deduct the costs, miles and hours.

Here's an article I've written about this: http://www.tomcopelandblog.com/2011/...eductible.html
