    Receipts for separated parents

I have a family that split up recently, and they would like separate receipts and separate annual totals beginning in 2015.

Is there any downside to this for me? I can't think of any.

For them? I'm not sure how this affects flex accounts or tax credits.

My policy is to provide a receipt to whoever makes the payment.

I can't think of any downside to you, as long as they each pay when it's their turn. Well, except for the extra time and paper to provide double the paperwork, but IMO that's not a big deal.

I did what AmyKidsCo does, whoever pays gets the receipt that day. This is no additional paperwork as if mom pays Friday, you give her receipt on Friday she pays, and when dad pays his Fridays, you give him the receipt. The # of receipts per month should remain unchanged. I cannot think of a downside to doing it that way. And taxes should be no different. If mom/dad divvy up payments for every other week, mom pays 2 weeks, dad pays 2 weeks, but your income is not changed. The ONLY paperwork you may have to do 'extra' is at end of year to ensure both get any "YTD" receipts they may ask for.
