    Energy Credit - Roof

Tom, we had an entire roof replaced on our home this year. I know how to do the home imp. depreciation of t/s over 39 years. My other question is how does the energy tax credit work for roofs. Does it have to be something special? Ours is asphalt shingles.

    Thank you.

You can't claim the energy tax credit for a new roof.

Why not? It is listed on the energy saving list. Says roof - asphalt or metal. What is that then???

I was wrong. I thought this credit had expired, but it was extended. You are correct.

That credit appears to only be valid for roofs installed through 12/31/13-not for any installed in 2014.

Along the same train of thought...

I had to file an extension, so have until October to file (I had to guesstimate for FAFSA reasons - lack of a missing K-1 held up filing)... anyway, I bought a new energy star home in October and then added all new energy star appliances; the credit was suppose to be for anything bought and installed before Dec 31, 2013... I am being told I can't claim any of the appliances - why? Am I missing something, because they all fall under depreciation rules too I would assume

The energy tax credit for appliances expired as of the 2012 tax season.

http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?...edits.tx_index I just installed an energy star, Seer 13 Heat pump in November (bought the house without in October)... it should have qualified because I added it after I bought the house. My home even has a certificate stating it by itself was energy star and was sold without the heat pump; I mean it was bought before the Dec 31st deadline
