I got a letter from the SSA yesterday saying that my W-2's from 2012 did not match what my 941 reported. It is actually off by the full amount of what I paid my employees that year so my assumption is that they did not receive any of my W-2/W-3's for that year. I just went through all my tax stuff from 2012 and can not find my copies of the W-2's. I know they were filed because I am still friends with my now ex-employees and they would have said something if they they didn't get their W-2's. Can I recreate them by hand using their last paystubs (which I still have access to) and submit them to the SSA? Do I need to do anything special? I'm really nervous because I don't want to mess it up worse than it is if they never got them. I no longer have any employees so this would have been for the last year I did.
