    W-2 For Our Kids

I hired both of my teens to work for my DC. Do I have to give them w-2? Also, what else do I have to submit to uncle sam in order to file this?

I was wondering this too. I had hired my 14 year old to work for me over the summer. She didn't make much and I heard if it was under like $2500 she didn't need to file taxes. It was just under $900. Do I need to file anything for her to claim it or just have record of when she worked and what she did?

Thank you for asking, I am wondering this very same thing. My 14 year old is licensed to be my assistant, so I pay him. I also wonder if I can claim my daughter who is 10 and not licensed as an assistant but I pay her for cleaning up on Friday nights after the week.

        hiring own family members

When hiring your own children under age 18 you should have a job description, a record of what the child did for work that was directly related to your business (no chores), a record that you paid her, file a W-2. For 2013 the child can earn less than $6,100 and not have to report it as taxable income.

If the child is age 18 or older you also need to withhold Social Security taxes.

Also, you should be getting a work permit as well! In California anyway they have to have one if they are being paid!

anyone in WI do this? I have a 10 year old. I couldn't quite tell by reading the labor laws so I thought I'd see if anyone here knows the answer. Looks like she would need a workers permit but not sure if she needs to be 12 or not.
