    What Expense Category...

would you put playground mulch, and landscape timbers in for the playground on MMK?

One more question: If I bought stuff in 2012 to open in Feb. of 2013, how can I claim it for 2013 (MMK asks for dates)?

Put the mulch under "repairs" on Form 8829. If the timbers are close enough to the house that they would be destroyed if the house was moved, depreciate them over 39 years as a home improvement. If they wouldn't be destroyed, you can't deduct them.

Claim your 2012 expenses in 2013 as if you bought them in 2013. They are start up expenses.

Should I make up a date for the 2012 purchases to enter it into mmk then?

Do I enter start-up expenses for the stuff bought in 2012 on schedule C or is there a different form that I should enter it in?

Yes, enter your start up expenses on Schedule C. You don't need to separately identify them as start up expenses and an lump them together with other similar expenses from 2013.
