    2011 Taxes Not Filed

I have my taxes all messed up and still have not submitted my 2011 taxes. I did file for the extension, I understand way past that time. I am married and my husbands did not get filed either. LONG LONG story.

Now we have had to set up payment arrangements to pay the amount asked. I read through all of the paperwork and it says that I am too late to file the taxes now??? Is that right? I can no longer file them?????

I don't think it's ever too late to file a tax return. I have a brother who is a contractor and he didn't file taxes for a long time, but he was able to file a bunch of years all at once to get caught up.

I'm not a tax expert, though, so I could be completely wrong.

It's never too late to file your taxes. The sooner you do them, the less of a penalty you will pay.

This happened to a friend a few years ago, she did not submit in 2008 I believe and didn't realize until 2010. You should still pay!

I've heard that if you don't owe then there is no penalty. Is that true?

We haven't filed this years yet but have an extension that gives us till October. We are expecting a refund.

          Thanks, Laurel

If you expect a refund they will take the penalty out of the refund. If you file late there is always a penalty. File as soon as you can to help reduce the penalty.
