    Car Repairs

Are car repairs an acceptable deduction?

We just had to replace the brakes and rotors on our car. Granted we did the work ourselves but the parts alone were close to $300.

Since I primarily use this vehicle to make bank runs and get groceries, is this a deduction we can use?

If you claim actual vehicle expenses then yes. From what I understand if you claim the standard mileage rate then the amount you get per mile already includes things like wear and tear on your car along with other stuff (gas, repairs, tires, fluids etc)

Correct answer. If you use the standard mileage rate you cannot deduct any car expenses.
