Home Repairs vs. Improvements vs. Supplies

Ok I have the 2012 tax workbook but I'm still a little confused about what category some things go in - if we bought paint and painted a room ourselves not a remodel just painted) is that a repair? also if we bought the materials for a repair and did it ourselves - do the materials (examples spackle, paint brushes, lumber etc) go under supplies or repairs?

    Repairs

I would put all of the expenses you cite into repairs.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what expense category you put items you buy. In the end they all get added together at the bottom of Schedule C. So, don't worry about what category you put expenses into.
