    Utilities

I started my business in April of 2012. I had children enrolled/attending June/July/August & Oct/Nov/Dec. Can I use all of my utilities expenses from April to Decemeber OR only the months children were enrolled?

I started watching children in May and was told I can only claim household expenses (utilities) from the time I started watching children so May-December. I did claim supplies purchased before then but no household expenses.

Also because you didn't work all year: when calculating your t/s% use the total hours in the months you had kids, not the total of the year (ie May-Dec not Jan-Dec).

You have a choice. Count all the hours you worked from June-December and divide by the total number of hours in those months in calculating your time-space %. Then claim utilities and other house expenses for those months.

Second method: Count the hours you worked in the months you cared for children (excludes September) and divide by the number hours in these months in calculating your time-space %. Then claim utilities and other house expenses for these months.
