    Preschool Tuition Expense

    Hi,

I am a licensed home daycare provider. My daughter started attending a private preschool last August and I've been told by different pe
ople I can claim her tuition on my taxes. I just want to know one way or the other if this is true. In a way this is like her childcare, I have 8 FT daycare kids so I can't actually have her at home I would be over my limit so I am wondering if anyone can help me find out of this is something I need to claim or not.

    Thanks
    Tasha

You can claim anything you paid to another person using the Child and Dependent Care credit. You'll need to get a W-10 from them with their tax ID number. However you could not claim a spot she took in your childcare.

Be careful claiming the Dependent care credit though. You only actually get a percentage (depends on your earned income) of the money you paid as a credit so if you owed no taxes before the credit it wouldn't help you at all as it is a non refundable credit. I've seen people get less back when they claimed their daycare expenses because they had to pay the preparer to fill out the extra form. KWIM?
