Claiming before and after hours-live on military base

I was told by a tax man last night (at a tax class offered by the base) that I might not be able to claim all my extra hours since I live on base. I am not understanding why I would not be able to claim all the hours I clean, prep and everything else that comes with this job. Can you tell me if this is true or not. Thank you.

You can count hours you work (including hours when children are not present) even though you live on a military base.
