    Quarterly Form 941

How can I file this form electonically? I have made a big mistake (I think) as a first time business filer. I did the calucations by hand and made the payment using EFTPS. However, I never filed the Quarterly Return. I thought once I made the payments, that was filing it. Please tell me if I am right or wrong and how to fix this ASAP!!!

This is getting to be tough.

Relax, what quarter are we talking about? Did you get a notice from the IRS? If you did, the instructions are spelled out.

If you filed your payments through EFTPS, you should be able to file your 941 electronically. I use QuickBooks for my payroll, so it walks me through it. If you do not use a payroll service, you can go to the IRS.gov and fill in your wage and payment information. Print it and mail it in.

I missed filing 940/941's the first year I had employees; they just wanted the form. It summarizes the wages/taxes paid for the quarter. If you don't owe anything, there wouldn't be anything to pay.

I am talking about Quarter 3 and 4 because I started in August. I have the form but when I do the caculations, it appears that I have made an overpayment. I am worried about my 941, W2 and W3 balancing out. I do have the form, just have a bit of time figuring it all out. Thanks

If you overpaid, you will get a refund/credit. Without having the form right in front of me, the federal tax withholding on your employee paychecks should equal your payments.

At this point I would take the total wages for the quarter you are filing for and fill out the the form 941. The percentages they use include the employer portion of the social security and medicare taxes, so the number you come up with will be accurate amount of taxes owed. I don't have any of the adjustments listed, but you may (ie: advanced eic, group life, sick pay, etc)

Then total the deposits you made for the quarter and subtract from what you owe. If you over paid for either quarter, you can carry the overpayment to next quarter or request a refund.
