Changing Last Name For FED ID #

I was married in the fall, I need to know how I change my last name for my tax ID number.... is this something I call and verbally do over the phone, or do I get a whole new number???
I guess the parents still use my maiden name on their child care tax forms until I get this changed even though I will be filing under my new name???

I'm so lost on the tax side of changing my name!!

Name change

I'm not sure that you need to get a new tax id# if you have legally changed your name. Call the IRS (800-829-1040) to find out.

I had to change my business name with the IRS and you have to do it in writing with the following information: your current EIN name, your EIN number and the new name. I have an assumed name in my state so I had to include a copy of my new assumed name registration as well. Purhaps they will require you to include a copy of your documentation of the name change.

Like Tom said, call their business line and get the address to send the letter and find out what documents, if anything, need to be included.
