What do you prefer kids have in the winter? Gloves? Mittens? Does it change depending on the age of the kid?

what brand/kind of mittens do you find stay on small hands best? looking for 2 year old range. waterproof for playing in the snow.

OMG!!! We have had a lot of snow lately and the kids LOVE playing outside. My DH plows a giant snowbank up so the kids can slide or dig tunnels and such....
