Would You Share Medical Info W. DCF's?

Just curious- if you were diagnosed with a medical condition that was not contagious would you share that information with the parents?

I have been recently diagnosed with a few Medical issues and I have been having a lot of blood work and I have to see a specialist about every other month, so I know the parents are curious as to what is going on with me... At the moment my illness doesn't hinder the care I provide their children with, but down the line it may ( which I then would tell and be up front) I guess I just don't want to share too much personal info with them, get pity, or have them worry about my ability to care for their children - which is not a problem at the moment. I am not too sure what to do, just **** it up and tell them or wait until the point comes where I have too, if that ever comes.

If it is not a problem with the care, then the parents don't need to know. I would make sure that your appointments and such are not a problem with taking so much time off, now that would be an issue with the parents for sure.

As for my appointments my Husband fills in and I try to arrange them during nap- the parents are pretty good with that- thank the lord or else I don't know what I would do!
They are just questioning all the appointments and Bloodwork

I've had cancer twice, all my families went through it with me. Some moms even drove me to chemo and sat all day with me. Others drove me to lab or dr's appts when I was too tired to drive.

I see no need to tell my new parents that I'm diabetic.

Glad you won the fight(s)! That's excellent about your DCFs helping you through it all as well!

You can always let your parents know that nothing serious is going on without having to divuldge what kind of medical issues you are going through. It's really a personal prefrence how intimate you want/can be with your DCFs.

Unless your condition hinders your ability to perform your job at optimum performance, I don't see a need in broadcasting your diagnosis.

I have psoriasis. It flares up about 4 times a year where it gets terribly bad and very noticeable. I've had a few parents ask me what it is or what happened and once I tell them, they go on like nothing ever happened. My skin condition doesn't affect much of anything other than my self esteem.

I say leave it alone. If you are needing to be gone more for appointments/treatment, you might need to explain all of your absences.

I think it depends on the relationship you have with your parents. I only have 4 kids, and am very close with 3 of them and sort of close with the new one. I have checkups every 3 months for my diabetes. Every 6 months for mamograms. Dental every 6 months. And recently had to be out for 1.5 weeks with pnemonia and in the hospital.

All my parents know what is going on, when I leave. My DD is my sub, or I close if necessary.

Yes. It's not a battle I want to fight again.

The first time in 91, I was diagnosed advanced 3rd stage. I had chemo and then surgery and in the hospital for 10 days. I took a total of 10 working days off. I did chemo Fri afternoons so that my daughters could take over with my neighbor keeping tabs and I could recoup over the weekend.

The second time in 05, it was only 2nd stage and I had 3 surgeries (all in and out), chemo (again on Fri's), then radiation. My daughter covered for me while I was at the hospital and I didn't take a day off, otherwise.
