Ha! I have always said I wanted to do this. My neighbors house is empty and there is maybe 15 feet between our homes. We have to live in the same home here but nothing a little connecting hall way couldn't fix right? ::::
Omg that would solve all our space issues

That must be how Michigan defines it because I am in Minnesota and am NOT allowed to be licensed as a center because the home I run my child care out of (in which I do not live there) is zoned as residential and not as commercial.

I am licensed as a Family Child Care. One provider, 10-12 children without an assistant and up to 14 children with a helper atleast 13 years of age. We currently have 6 providers in our town that operate this way.

One provider has a duplex and runs one daycare from the upper level while another gal runs the lower level as a separate child care. The first provider owns the building but each provider runs their business as their own as they wish.

Funny how different states have such different laws.

How did I miss this post?

It is illegal in FL as well. We did it, but it is licensed as a center. It IS more difficult, more "hoops" to jump through like someone else mentioned. BUT ITS WORTH IT!!!! We found a perfect house, bought it and got an institutional use zoning change. If you want to know more, OP or anyone, just PM me and I'd be happy to describe the process. At least, the process in FL. I cannot tell you how awesome it is to go to my regular house at the end of the day.

I'm with you on that one! I have nic-nacs and glass decor galore at my house! I love having it very child UN-friendly!!!!!! I like leaving work behind. My son on the other hand has put up with lots of ribbing from his friends that his home is a day care!!!
