    Welcome to FL

Another sad day in FL. Ryla Wilson, the van death. Am I suprised FL GOP quashed the bill? No. Sad sad politics here, so much hate, so little empathy. FL has some loose laws when it comes to protecting children, enforcing regs, and funding DCF. Off topic, but FL law says 1 adult to fifteen 3 year olds is ok. Who agrees with that? I don't. My center rocks a 1:7 ratio. And when my pt staffer is there its 1:5. Unheard of in large centers.

If these alarms are what I think they are, they aren't like normal car alarms. What happens is that the alarm goes off as soon as you shut the engine off. The whole point is that you, as the adult, are responsible for going back to shut off the alarm. On the buses we drove, you lifted the back door arm and put it back down to shut off the alarm. Since I drove around schoolage kids, typically we would just have an older kid shut off the alarm for us, since it was a piercing sound. However, we only felt comfortable to do that because I literally touched each child to do a count on the way in and out of the vehicle. I was never alone as a teacher, so it was easy to also do one final check under seats and all before leaving the bus and locking it.
