    It's Just Too Hot!

So it went from rain to super hot over night... today is about 95.....

this morning right after breakfast, the kids refused to go outside to the park or my back yard because it was too hot. I just checked the temp online and it says that it will be about 95 today, which I believe, I went outside to check...

So the kids still don't want to go outside. One of the parents text me about 1pm asking how the park was and I said we did not go the kids were too hot. She got really upset and said AGAIN no outside playtime. This happened last week when it was about 85 and her child did not want to go to the park and threw a fit that last almost an hour. So we were not able to go to the park because I could not walk a child taht was throwing himeself every where.

What would you do? I am not too sure what to say. I think that 95 is too hot for them to be outside. There is also no shaded areas at the park and very little in my back yard.

Last week, my 15 year old son passed out two times while at football due to heat exhaustion and it was only in the 80s last week. I am worried that this will happen to the kids.

what do you guys do when its too hot out? Also what do you consider too hot?

95 is pretty hot, but I think that as long as you go out for a limited time (20 minutes or so in the morning and late afternoon, maybe?) and they drink plenty of water it should be fine. Do your parents provide sunscreen? What's the humidity level where you live?

You said "the kids refused to go outside". How old are these kids? If you say it's outside time, it's outside time - end of story. They'll live.

In my area it's over 90 from May to almost October. If we didn't go outside because of heat, we'd never get to go outside.

There is a temprature guide here on this site somewhere. Also, what we have done is load up on the sunblock of course. All kids bring their own water bottle and those go out with us and we stay out for about 10 or 15 min come back in cool off do a project and head back out before lunch. This works. Don't have to reapply sunblock cause it has not been that long.

I have water bottles for each child and fill up the kiddie pool. They are happy as clams as long as they have water to splash in. Of course in Vermont, our days of 95 degrees are often few and far between!

          Thanks for the responses

My DCK are between 3 and 5. They all scream cried this morning when we were going to go out, so back in we went.

I decided after readin some of your responses that we were just going to **** it up after naps and do water play. They had a blast!

I think that we are just going to continue to do water play after naps. The wind is a little heavy in the morning, so the breeze makes them cold.

Loads of sunblock and tons of watermelon today!

          thanks again guys!

There are two seasons in Florida: summer and January! Lol! We all go out in the morning...the older ones will go out in the afternoon only if they choose to, for 10 mins, to burn off some energy. Nobody under 2 goes out in the afternoon, mornings only! Unless, of course, its January.

Send me some heat! I had 3 ask for sweaters yesterday afternoon!

But seriously...I wouldn't be letting 3 to 5 year olds decide activities. Most of my crew is that age and I find that they complain about changing activities alot but don't actually mind the change once it happens. If they chose to sit and be miserable instead of playing then they can sit. Too bad for them on days when someone is being a grump I become an extra, super, duper fun monster outside and they miss out.
