My kids are on a totally different floor of the house with a seperate washroom. I bring them their meals. They leave for school before the DCK's get her other than one DCB most of the time. My eldest gets home from school and holes up in her room to everyone leaves and my youngest goes to a sitter after school until I can go get her after work so they both have limited exposure to the DCK's all of the time. DCK's have their own washroom and playroom that the family doesn't use either. I don't think there is a great risk of exposure, no offense to those who do.
Scarlet fever is strep throat with a rash. This is our second bout with it and although contagious nor more than a cold. My kids went through 4 bouts of stomach flu this winter with no DCK's getting sick. I understand there can be complications from strep and I'm not downplaying the severity of the case some people but as I said...my kids aren't around them. I have no tonsils and haven't had strep since I had them removed 16 years ago. My bf is very suseptible to strep/scarlet fever and he hasn't caught it either even living here so my precautions are working as far as I can see.
As for someone commenting on calling public health...there are hundreds of cases locally in all of the elementary schools. It's a mutated form of strep throat and the children's hospital and local doctors are treating it as such with antibiotics and a couple of days home from school.
