Sleepwalking...

How do you control a sleep walker??? I have one that EVERY SINGLE DAY gets up from his mat and walks across the room!! He sleeps with his eyes open anyway, which totally freaks me out, but the walking is really new to me...

Today, he got up, stepped on two kids, and plopped down in the kid recliner that was sitting right next to me. I said "___, are you awake?" and he never moved...I said "____, can you go back to your mat??" He stood up, walked very clumsily over to his friend who was sound asleep, and laid down next to him.

I walked over and sort of guided him back to HIS mat, where he is now snoring again...But seriously, what do you do about a sleepwalker?? Did I handle it correctly?? I have always heard that you should never wake them...but he can't step on all the kids!

Ha...weird, too...My dh has started sleepwalking, just in the past couple of weeks. Funny story actually...Last night, he got up, walked to the corner of our bed and looked like he was pulling on something. Then walked to his sock drawer, pulled out some socks, did something with them at the corner of the bed, threw them in the floor, and laid back down...UHHH REALLY?! I asked what he was doing, and he told me "there's some wire stuck on that tree and I had to get my wire cutters and get it off!" Wow... :confused:::

hahaha!! dcb has been doing it for a few months now...

funny part, my daycare isn't in my home...guess both places need airing out, huh?? :: Guess it's just a man thing? just kidding!

Have you talked to the parents about it? I have a dcb who sleep walks sometimes. The frst tme he walked right into a wall. Recently, he walked up to be and said he found something and handed it to me. There was nothing there. The parents state they never knew he sleep walks but that sometimes he crawls into bed with them. I don't know if it's right but what I do is firmly call his name and tell him to go back to his mat. I usually have to repeat it a couple of times but he does it. If you are worried about him walking on the other kids place him on a side where noone is around or somewhere near you so you can direct him back. Good luck!

My son who is 15 sleep walks ALL the time. He looks for thing around the house, in the carpet, I have seen him hold a pillow over his Xbox, open a book and lay it on his face, run into a wall, and numerous other things. It is pretty funny to see but a little scary at times knowing he can get hurt and I'll be asleep. He started doing this around age 2.

my child does this sometimes

My child has done this a couple of times. I've always been able to find something that was off with his routine or something that was stressing him out. The child will out grow it. As long as he's not making a fuss and you can guide him back to his cot, it should be fine. Definately, report each time to the parents and discuss it with them to see if they can evaluate his routine or any changes to it that may have caused the sleep walking. I have to admit that I slept walked when I was a child and looking back, I think it was home life stress causing it.

My 5 yr old son sleepwalks right out of the front door in the middle of the night and stands on the front lawn. Scary. Thank god my husband, who sleeps through his truck being stolen heard him leave the house. We now have chain locks at the tops of all the doors and the backyard gates locked too.

Could you put a soft barrier around him kind of like a gate or something so it will help to deter him from stepping on his friends?

2 of my kids sleep walk, though it's usually their bodies trying to tell them the bladder needs emptying. ::

One time my dd (who was 9 or 10 at the time) came down the stairs, stood at our bedroom door, very weird look on her face and just kept saying "I need to know. You need to tell me." It was almost like a horror film. I finally told her to go to the bathroom. She turned and headed towards the bathroom (had to go through the kitchen). One of the chairs was pulled out at the table and she ran into it. She backed up, ran into it again, and this kept repeating until I pushed the chair in for her. It was crazy and creepy. She is now 15 and has for the most part outgrown it, though still will on occasion (once every 2 or 3 months).

My ds (6) will get up in the middle of the night to do his business and doesn't know where to go. He'll wander to the living room, my bedroom, or other various places in the house. He's noisy when we trudges in his sleep, so I get up and guide him to the little room, he does his thing, and if I don't guide him back he'll curl up on the bathroom floor and go back to sleep.
